Dear Friends,

MAB01On Christmas Eve morning the convent telephone in Glassboro rang, not to bring Christmas greetings, but with the tragic news of a horrific traffic accident involving five religious of the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Israel. The Sisters were traveling to Bethlehem to celebrate Christmas together with the community there. Of the five sisters in the car, three were killed while the other two suffered serious injuries.  The three deceased were Sr M. Salvatorina Camilleri, the blood sister of Sr. M. Bianca Camilleri who resides in Glassboro and teaches at Good Shepherd School in Collingswood, Sr. M. Valeria Briccoli and Sr. M. Rania Haddad.  All three served at the guest house and Church of the Mount of the Beatitudes welcoming thousands of visitors on pilgrimage every year.  The funeral was held, on Wednesday, December 29 at the Church of San Salvatore (The Saviour) in Jerusalem.  Burial was at the cemetery on Mt. Zion in Jerusalem.  For photos and to read the moving tribute offered for the Sisters go to:
